Quality and conservation
The way in which you present your artwork is a key factor both for your art and your interior. If you are buying art and it needs framing or re-framing, you want a frame that reflects the value of the piece and its surroundings giving you or your customer maximum enjoyment over many years. Equally important is the knowledge that your art is protected from acid and ultraviolet light damage. Very simple measures like using absolute acid free mount and backing board, conservation quality acid free tapes and UV protective glass will help to keep your artwork in mint condition. We use these products as standard. By protecting your art in this way, not only are you ensuring no further damage, but also its ability to retain or maximise any increase in value over the years.

To check yourself whether your mount boards need replacing, have a look at the bevel where the mount meets your artwork. If it has turned yellow then your mounts are not acid free and could be damaging your art, likewise the backing board and tapes used to attach your artwork are also not acid free and lying against your art. If in doubt bring your framed artwork in to us where we can with no obligation discuss your options.

Buying Art

When buying works on canvas or board make sure that they are flat to the wall. The face of the canvas should not be saggy or rippled. If you turn a canvas around you should ideally find wooden wedges in the corners enabling the artwork to be drummed out at a later date if required.

Selling art

When presenting art for sale showing its full potential is incredibly important. If you are an artist, it is important to recognise that framing can enhance a picture significantly and may increase the likelihood of a sale. Gallery owners should also realise that presenting art badly reflects directly back on the credibility of your Gallery as a professional establishment. In our experience people want to buy a complete package, so it important to get the framing right.

Other gilding possibilities
Gilding is not limited to picture and mirror frames and we have always practised decorative gilding on interiors at hotels, public buildings and private residences in the UK and abroad. These projects include revolving doors, columns, decorative plasterwork, walls, ceilings, sculpture and textured artwork. We have also used our gilding knowledge to work alongside artists and sculptors to help create gilded surfaces on various pieces, something we are more than happy to advise on in the future.
